Environmental Friendliness
Three Twins operates under four basic principles to operate in an earth-friendly manner, which are:
Ingredients
Organic ingredients are a critical aspect of Three Twins Organic Ice Cream. Because they are grown without chemicals, they are better for the earth than conventional crops and livestock that are grown with chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides and fungicides that then enter the natural environment. Plus, they make for inconceivably delicious ice cream!
Packaging
All of the bowls, spoons, cups and napkins that we use in the store are 100% compostable. The spoons are a bioplastic called Spudware, which is made from a combination of potato or corn starch and soy oil. The bowls are made of sugar cane bagesse, which is the waste fiber of sugar cane production that would typically be burned in a field somewhere in the developing word. Milkshake cups are made out of PLA, which is a clear plastic made from corn that is both recyclable and compostable. Three Twins takes an extra step that sets it aside from all of the other restaurants in Marin County by collecting all of these compostable materials to a commercial composting facility in order to ensure that they are composted. This is necessary because commercial composting is not available in Marin.
Renewable Energy
Three Twins Organic Ice Cream offsets the emissions the electricity that it uses by purchasing renewable energy certificates.
Charitable Donations
Through its affiliation with 1% For The Planet, Three Twins Organic Ice Cream gives away at least 1% of its sales, regardless of its profitability, to earth-related non-profits. 2006 donations were made to the Marin Agricultural Land Trust (MALT) and Marin Organic.
