Frequently Asked Questions
Where did the name come from?
My twin brother, his wife and I used to all live together. We started calling the apartment Three Twins and when it came time to start a business, I couldn't think of a better name.
Do you ship your ice cream?
Not yet.
My organization is hosting an event. Can you donate ice cream or a raffle or an auction item?
Please send us a printed request. We focus our donations on the local community, especially organizations that help to support our environmental mission.
I am interested in serving your ice cream at my restaurant. Whom should I contact?
Please contact Neal at threetwins@gmail.com
Do you have vegan choices?
Yes, we try to always have at least one sorbet and one rice milk or soy milk “ice cream.”
Does your ice cream contain gluten?
flavors that contain cookies contain gluten. Those with a high sensitivity to gluten should choose flavors such as vanilla that are made earlier in our production cycle and therefore have a lesser chance of cross contamination from gluten.
Does your ice cream contain soy?
Flavors that are made with melted chocolate, such as Mint Confetti or Mocha Difference, contain a small amount of organic soy oil to help melt the chocolate. Additionally, any ice cream made with chocolate chips, such as Vanilla Chocolate Chip or Mint Confetti, contains soy lecithin.
What's the difference between ice cream, sorbet and sherbet?
According to federal law, ice cream is made with milk and contains between 10% and 18% milk fat. Sherbet contains between 1% and 2% milk fat. Sorbets do not contain milk fat, though they are not always vegan, as some manufacturers include egg whites. All sorbets from Three Twins are always vegan.
Do you offer franchises?
No.
Are you looking for investors?
Possibly. Please contact us for more information.
Do you cater?
We do! Please contact us for more information.
What does it mean to be organic?
Organic is a federally regulated term. In short, organic foods are grown without the use of chemical fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, or other harmful chemicals. Organic foods cannot be genetically modified and also may not contain artificial colors, artificial flavors and may not be treated with sewage sludge (who would have thought that non-organic food could be treated with sewage sludge – yuck).
Find more information on organic from the Organic Trade Organization.
Do you have nutritional information for your ice cream?
We have had a lab analyze the flavors that we offer for sale in pints at grocery stores. Find out more by using the links below:
What's your favorite flavor?
That would be like asking my mom who her favorite son is. I really can't answer that.
Are you going to open additional stores?
I sure hope so, though none are in the works at this time. Do you know of the perfect location for the third Three Twins? Please let us know. If you are the first person to suggest a location that we end up opening a Three Twins, you will win free ice cream cones for a year.
Do you give factory tours?
Because our stores are so small, there isn't much to see, but we will be glad to talk to your group at one of our stores about running a green ice cream business.
Is your ice cream Kosher?
Not at this time.
Is your ice cream made with pasteurized milk?
Yes, all ice cream in California must be made with a pasteurized milk. In addition to being illegal, ice cream made from raw milk could present a significant health risk, as some bacteria can continue to grow in a freezer environment.
What do you use to sweeten your ice cream?
Our ice cream is sweetened with organic evaporated cane juice.
Why don't you sweeten your ice cream with stevia?
Stevia is only approved as a supplement and has not been approved by the FDA as a food ingredient.
Does your ice cream contain eggs?
Yes, all of our ice creams and sherbets contain eggs. Our sorbets are all vegan and free of egg.
Does your ice cream contain stabilizers?
Our ice cream does not contain stabilizers, which preserves its clean, non-gummy texture. Because it does not contain stabilizers, our ice cream melts to a liquid like milk, rather than a gelatinous liquid. Our sorbets, sherbets and non-dairy “ice creams” contain organic stabilizers.
